Advert from early 50s
The International Federation of Physical Culture operated in London around the 1950s and 60s and maybe later.
In the 50's George Walsh appeared as the principal. In later years it was Frank Chown.
They advertised heavily in popular magazines such as 'Tit-Bits' and the two 1961 advertisments below are for their 'Body-Bulk' method of home physical training which appears to be a non-apparatus course.

At the same time they also promoted the 'Achilles' course. This, according to the brochure, lasted for either 6 or 12 months and was customised to include apparatus, if required, Weight-lifting & Weight Training being specifically mentioned. You will note that the photos are identical to the above magazine adverts.
The company also ran Achilles Barbell & Appliances Ltd. in Bromley, Kent.

The IFPC advocated 'Type-Training' - that is different routines for different requirements based on the anatomic type These were defined as 'Thoracic', Intermediate' & 'Abdominal' as can be seen on the advert above. This leaflet from 1956 explains this in detail. Contributed by Sax Hallam | |
