| OBITUARY Besides his daily program of twenty-five exercises and standing on his head, Macfadden usually went barefoot. He walked at least five miles everyday barefoot and even played tennis without shoes. Over the past few years barefoot running has become a growing trend. There is plenty of evidence to indicate that wearing shoes actually leads to health problems with your feet, ankles and calf muscles. Although most students at nursing colleges may be concerned with the dangers of going shoeless, such as cuts from rocks and glass, such injuries can be easily avoided, and running or walking barefoot like Macfadden will actually help strengthen the muscles and ligaments in your feet, legs and hips. |
