Sandow's New Grip Dumb-Bells

The New Grip Dumb-Bell was introduced around 1899.
Below is reproduced pages from Sandow's Magazine of 1899, introducing the new dumb-bells together with a set of exercises specifically designed to be used with them.





As can be seen the original design contained only two springs per dumb-bell. Later designs as shown in the colour photos and advertisements contained 4 to 7 springs each.

These dumb-bells continued to be manufactured long after Sandow's death.
The final version of the dumb-bell was completely redesigned with an adjustable centre spring and a bell that rang when the grips were completely closed or opened.
